Occasionally I like to take a mini-break from work and visit St. Patrick's Cathedral. It's only a block away from my office. Whether you're spiritual or not, St. Patrick's is an excellent space to escape to. It's a quiet sanctuary even as it undergoes a massive restoration project. St. Patrick's won't return to its normal self until the project wraps up, scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2015.

For those who are wondering, the restoration project isn't cosmetic. There are a couple of planned extensions though, including a new garden and a public greenspace. But mainly it's structural and safety work involving both the exterior and interior. This also includes work on the stained glass windows. And the total project will cost a pretty penny, estimated at $175 million. You can learn more about the restoration here.
