TRIPLE REBIRTH FOR THE HIGH LINE
This week, design renderings for the third phase of the High Line were presented in a community meeting. The section stretches across the rail yard over West 34th Street. I thought it would be interesting to look back at how the High Line got its start. It goes back to 1999, and I found this video posted by NYC's Department of Parks & Recreation on YouTube. The common story of the High Line has always been one of rebirth: from freight train line to park in the sky. But the three development phases is a powerful reminder of another underlying narrative: that New York - and New Yorkers - should never stop improving.
