HURRICANE SANDY: ONE MONTH LATER

The Doe Fund's "men in blue" are still helping out in hard hit areas like the Rockaways, Coney Island, and Staten Island.
One month after Hurricane Sandy hit New York, I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised if the desire to help others in our city dropped off considerably. Thing is, it hasn't, and I think most people would agree that in many ways Sandy has brought out the best in New Yorkers. People, churches, nonprofits, and businesses are banding together to help out people in need.

Folks from my church recently joined in the clean-up efforts of Red Hook with the Red Hook Initiative, an organization that just won the NY Nonprofit Excellence Award. If you're looking for more ways to help out - both conventional and non-conventional - check out this list.
