DECONSTRUCTING THE DOSA MAN
Today the family and I spent a great day at Governors Island. There were plenty of attractions and events going on. But the highlight for me was the NY Dosa cart (aka Dosa Man) who was there for the day. Dosa Man is one of the best street foods I've had in a long, long time. It features South Indian vegetarian fare, but it's not a Biryani cart. They make gluten-free samosa and dosas, which are common in the Tamil Nadu region. (Basically as south as you can get in India). This cart had even a carnivore like me thoroughly impressed.
The samosas are great if you're in a hurry. But if you have a couple of minutes to spare, the dosas are worth the wait. I strongly recommend the Pondicherry dosa. For only $6 your dosa crepe comes with a heaping mound of potatoes and vegetables, coconut chutney, and a spicy soup. The soup was ridiculously good.
NY Dosa brings unique cuisine to the street food scene and they already picked up a Vendy award. They're usually in Washington Square Park off Sullivan Street, but you can track them on Twitter. Happy eating!
